ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

What are Alumni saying?

Derek Tyree, 2005 Washington Trust Bank Vice President-Training
Derek Tyree, 2005After the program, I became involved in several leadership roles in my church and recently stepped into a position on the education committee of the Washington Bankers Association.  The community trustee view of service has helped shape my attitude and made me excited to serve. The servant leadership model is a fundamental skill for any leader to learn in order to be successful in today’s rapidly changing business world.  I have taken many aspects of what I learned in the program and incorporated them into the WTB leadership program;  specifically, the aspects that defined how to be a good servant leader in the communities in which we live.  This idea aligns with our bank mission so it was an easy transition to make.  I also value the friendships and relationships I built while in the program.  I have a valuable support group out there. Despite any differences we have on philosophy or politics, we are on the same wavelength on the role of leadership in our community.

Sue Welberry, 2005 Leadership Spokane Program Chair

Sue Welberry, 2005I am currently working with Leadership Spokane Board and Alumni Association implementing the new re-branding and outreach projects.  I’m excited about these projects because they will both highlight and raise the awareness of the footprint and value of the Leadership Spokane program to our communities! Going through the LS program made me aware of how our community functions and where the needs are.  It also helped me build a lasting network of fellow community leaders that I can call upon to help get the job done.  Leadership Spokane’s reputation in the community is outstanding and that has certainly been helpful with opening doors.

Michael Senske, 2000

My experience at Leadership Spokane helped me to create a culture of continuous improvement at Pearson Packaging Systems by impressing upon me the importance of building a leadership team comprised of a diverse group of individuals with a wide range of experiences.  Leadership Spokane also impressed upon me the importance of servant leadership, and the need to continually work to remove obstacles standing in the way of the success of my team. Leadership Spokane exposed me to the tremendous needs that exist in our community and the importance of people providing leadership and guidance to organizations that can help meet those needs.  This understanding and sense of responsibility to the community encouraged me to accept my position as Chair of Empire Health Foundation and help create an organization that will provide much needed resources to our community.
