About Youth Leadership Spokane
Youth Leadership Spokane brings together roughly 25 youth leaders from all Spokane County public and private schools for an intensive, 9-month program. Participants explore how to become citizen leaders in the community.
"Youth Leadership Spokane has provided one of the best learning experiences of my life. It has opened my eyes to the community and made me far more mature than I used to be. I have learned the value of leadership and compassion through YLS and have also been taught that one person can make a difference. My heart has grown, thanks to YLS." – YLS Graduate
Program Goals Include
- To support and develop the skills of emerging youth leaders.
- To help youth gain a greater understanding of contemporary issues through interaction and problem solving with peers and community leaders.
- To help youth learn about community resources and promote volunteerism.
- To build a life-long commitment to the role and responsibility of “servant” leadership.
Youth Leadership Spokane students have the opportunity to meet and work with the Adult Leadership Spokane class.
"By emphasizing both leadership skills and community action, Youth Leadership Spokane encouraged me to use my talents to serve the common good, thereby opening opportunities which I never thought possible."- Jamie Redman, Class of 2003 Leadership Spokane Board of Directors 2003/2004

Skill building sessions are held on the first Monday of every month from September-May from 6:30-8:45 pm at various locations within Spokane County. Participants are also expected to participate in Youth Leadership Summits, which is open to all high school students in the Inland Northwest.
The suggested, minimum tuition for 2008 is $100, with full scholarships available to qualified students. Tuition is set low to insure that all interested students and their families can participate.
